Try a sample library

A small library of public-domain passages — ten books, 107 marked passages — so you can see how Refrain reads before you connect anything of your own.

How to import it

1. Tap Download the sample library above. It saves to Files (usually in Downloads).
2. Open Refrain and go to the Library tab.
3. Tap + in the top right, then Import My Clippings.txt.
4. Choose the downloaded file. Ten books appear on the shelf.
5. Open Returns to see the day's passages, or Threads to see what Refrain found running between the books.

On a Mac, download the file and use File → Import My Clippings.txt (⌘O).

What's in it

Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, Thoreau, Emerson, Montaigne, Melville, Whitman, William James, Benjamin Franklin, and Frederick Douglass — all long out of copyright. It is a genuine Kindle My Clippings.txt export in shape, so it exercises the same import path your own file would.

Getting back to your own library

The sample imports like any other library, which means you can hide or delete the books afterwards from Library. Nothing about the sample is special-cased — and importing it does not stop you syncing your real highlights from Amazon at any time.
